From Links to Lights
Final Design Vision
Context
Designing a link involves exploring materials, forms, and novel ways of joining beyond the conventional methods of assembling parts together.
This opens up the potential to create new systems for building.
Concepts
The material exploration eventually narrowed down to investigating how to transform 2D sheet material into 3D forms.
With this exploration intent in mind, I focused on evolving the shortlisted “H-link” design by varying parameters like the number of arms, placement of incisions/holes, material, folding direction, scale, proportions, and configurations.
Communication
In parallel with developing the form from the base link, I increased the scale and focused on configurations that would best suit different types of lamps.
Overall, the goal was to convey how the link design offers flatpackability and flexibility in configuring different diffuser shapes for a product family of lamps.
