Final Design Vision
Context
Some products have motion as a byproduct of its function, but what would an object look like if motion was the primary purpose?
The studio began with benchmarking existing moving objects, doing the Bingo card exercise to generate ideas, finding ways to make sense out of nonsense and evolve it into design directions. I narrowed down the typology to kitchen appliances, then explored various ways to make processes more visible and less mundane.
Concepts
After low-fi prototyping ideas and evaluating the resulting movements, pulverizing was shortlisted as the design direction.
I explored how natural phenomena (i.e. gravity, inertia) could produce motion in kitchen appliances and experimented with different conditions that best facilitated pulverizing food particles.
Communication
In parallel with finalizing form development, the objective during this phase was to communicate the context and usage of the product and its momentum. This involved sourcing relevant kitchen objects in the visualization and emphasizing the grinding action.
