HEAL | Behind the Scenes
HEAL is an exhibition that explores the idea of healing through the restoration or transformation of broken physical objects. Through the concept of fragmentation, Studio Juju envisioned an exhibition ambiance that would evoke solemn emotions as visitors experience stories on how repairing objects facilitates an alternative path of healing.
My internship started after the exhibition design was locked in but we were at the stage of refining the execution of the design. I had no prior experience in spatial design and it was Studio Juju's first time working with projectors, but I worked around this by being communicative and transparent with my colleagues on what conditions worked best for the exhibition's design intent.
Before the exhibition setup: cardboard prototyping, testing projection conditions (i.e. whether it can sync, loop the videos, and have the video mapped onto the fragmented cardboard), assisting colleagues with marking out plywood
During the exhibition setup: assisting with site marking, assembly of prop legs, testing the sync with all 8 projectors, fine-tuning alignment collectively, marking out positions of the pedestals and projectors, assisting with trunking
After the exhibition setup: liaising with volunteers on when to refresh the projectors, occasionally powering on electronics for HEAL
Though I was primarily parked under the HEAL exhibit, I assisted with various tasks for the other three exhibits that Studio Juju designed. This included: tape drawings, site markup, video troubleshooting, assembly, procurement, etc.
